Many of us who have oily skin are extremely upset with this fact and some tend to consider this to be a huge disadvantage. Unfortunately, this particular skin type can indeed cause you a great amount of problems as it is prone to acne and many other unpleasant disorders. On the other hand, oily skin preserves better and ages more slowly.
There are plenty of cosmetic products on the market todaydesigned specifically to combat the negative aspects of oily skin. This means that you have a chance to get rid of all the problems and only enjoy the benefits Mother Nature has given you.
The following care tips will help you keep your oily skin in top condition at all times:
1. Cleanse your face two times a day.
As your skin is prone to sebum overproduction, you need to cleanse it from any
excess oil twice a day, in the morning and before bed. Note that you shouldn’t
do this more often as this will remove too much oil and your body will try to
compensate for it by producing even more.
Foaming and gel based cleansers are perfect for oily skin as they can get deep
into the pores without causing any unnecessary damage. You should use mild
products designed specifically for this skin type as otherwise, you can damage
your skin which will lead to acne.
2. Exfoliate regularly.
Oily skin likes scrubs, so you should exfoliate it at least once a week. Try
doing this twice, if there are no negative side-effects, stick to this routine.
Removing the dead cells and dirt from your face will reduce the risk of
pimples. This will also stimulate your sebaceous glands and eventually improve
their function.
Renewed skin will look fresh and healthy. However, be sure not to rub too
enthusiastically and do not use any harsh scrubs.
3. Nourish your skin properly.
Always use a special mask after exfoliation as at this time your skin will
absorb most of the nutrients from it. The best masks for oily skin contain
different kinds of clay, sandalwood, or lemon. These ingredients help to absorb
any excess oil and brighten your skin.
Rinse your face thoroughly to remove all remnants of the product from your face
(especially if you are using a clay-based mask) but do not rub your skin
excessively while doing so.
4. Always use a toner.
It’s imperative to use a special kind of alcohol-free toner for oily skin every
time after cleansing. It will help normalize sebum production and remove any
particles of the cleansing foam that might not have been washed away by water.
5. Moisturize regularly.
Excessive sebum production doesn’t replace moisturizing. In fact, if your skin
doesn’t get proper hydration, your body will try to make up for it producing
more oil.
You just need to use a moisturizing gels developed for oily skin. These tend to
be water based, must be very light and absorb quickly.
6. Protect your skin from the sun.
UV rays are dangerous for any skin type. In case of oily skin, the damage
caused by them stimulates oil production as your body tries to protect itself
the only way it can. To prevent this, you need to use sunscreen every time you
go outside.
Note that the majority of these creams are rather heavy and can clog your
pores. Search for gel-based products as they should be easier to absorb.
