Beauty Routine for Pregnant Women: Dos and Don’ts

A pregnant woman and a mirrorPregnancy is without a doubt one of the best periods of your life. However, it does wreak havoc with your hormones, which often results in breakouts, pigmentation, and other nasty skin conditions. Of course, you cannot allow any cosmetic issues to stress you out, so you need to take special care of your skin during this time of your life. Special is the key word here, because some of the cosmetic products you are used to can be dangerous for the precious baby growing inside you.

Today we will tell you what beauty products and procedures that need to be avoided during pregnancy and those that are safe.

Things You Can Do:

  • Coloring your hair.
Although some might claim that hair dyes are dangerous, there is no evidence to show that using them will harm your unborn child in any way. Therefore, you can safely maintain your dashing hair color while carrying a child.
A word of advice though, you will need to take some specialized vitamins and other supplements for pregnant women. Otherwise, your hair and nails might get weakened and damaged.
  • Get a spray tan.
If you really must get a fake tan during your pregnancy, use the spray variety. This is a quick and safe procedure. However, you shouldn’t overindulge in it and only go to a salon that uses organic tanning products to color your skin.
  • Get manicures and pedicures.
As we’ve already mentioned, pregnancy is particularly hard on your nails and hair because the growing baby inside you needs a lot of calcium and other important elements. Therefore, you need to take extra special care of your nails. Consider using natural oils to keep them hydrated and strong.

Things You Shouldn’t Do

  • Don’t get your hair permed or straightened. Keratin treatments are presumed to be safe, but there isn’t enough evidence for it. Therefore, it’s best to avoid any heavy chemical treatments for your locks.
  • Avoid using any essential oils without talking to your doctor first. This may seem strange as they are organic products, but they have a profound effect on your body in general, which can be harmful for you during this time of your life. For example, jasmine and rosemary oils have been found to trigger contractions.
  • Stay away from spas.
Unfortunately, you will have to wait for your baby to be born until you can indulge in a full spa experience. Hot baths, steam rooms, and any similar procedures are to be avoided during pregnancy.
  • Switch to organic cosmetic products.
Study the list of ingredients on the labels of all the cosmetic products that you use and throw away everything that contains potentially harmful chemicals. Use organic products and high-quality cosmetics that are completely safe. PureLx offers a wide range of creams that will take good care of your skin without harming your precious unborn baby.

Please note that in some cases, women can develop some serious skin problems due to all the hormonal changes caused by pregnancy. If you notice something like this, be sure to consult your doctor about it. A qualified medical specialist will be able to suggest a safe treatment option.
